We are delighted to announce that the 64th Annual Meeting of the Institute of Andean Studies will be returning to an in-person format for 2024! The 64th Annual Meeting will be held at 145 Dwinelle Hall on the University of California, Berkeley campus from January 12th to January 13th, 2024. In order to attend the 64th Annual Meetings, all participants must either register and pay in advance by January 10th, there will be no on-site registration. A final list of advance registrants' names*  will be posted shortly after January 10. 

* Participants with safety concerns may contact the Community Resource Officer (CRO@andeanstudies.org) with justification for a request for an exemption from the public registrants list.

ABOUT THE MEETING

For our first in-person meeting since 2020, we will return to our previous two day (Friday-Saturday) format. The preliminary program can be found by following this link. The IAS is pleased to announce our Travel Award Grantee for 2024, Dr. Dagmar Bachraty from the Universidad de Chile, who will present a special extended paper on Friday discussing her research on “wak’a” and their role in Capacocha ceremonies. Dr. Christopher Heaney, of Pennsylvania State University, will give the Saturday evening lecture on the legacy and "reburials" of Dr. Julio C. Tello. In addition to the papers and posters, there will be a Forum on Saturday afternoon where the Board of Directors will recognize the contributions of several past officers and lead an open discussion with meeting participants on future plans for the IAS. The Annual Business Meeting of the IAS will take place Friday afternoon. Finally, we welcome back the "Commensal Feast" at lunch time Friday!

REGISTRATION FEE

In order to attend this year's Annual Meeting, attendees will be required to pay a Registration Fee of $50 USD for professionals and $25 USD for students. Registrants will be directed to a payment page following submission of the registration/submission form that they will be required to pay the relevant amount or their registration will not be complete. Be sure to identify the appropriate amount for your payment ($50 or $25). All funds are much appreciated and go to support IAS' future programming and operational costs.

IMPORTANT DATES

  • December 6, 2023: Advanced registration is opened.
  • December 18, 2023: A finalized program of titles, authors, and abstracts available. 
  • January 10, 2024: Deadline to register. There will be NO on-site registration.

ANYONE MAY PARTICIPATE

Attendees and presenters need not be members of the Institute, and students are welcome. For meeting safety, all participants must register no later than January 10, 2024 using the Meeting Registration Form. The website will send a confirmation email to the address that you provided. Click on the link in that email to log into the website and set or reset a password of your choice.

LOGGING IN

If you see Log In fields at the bottom of the menu on the right, enter the email address that you registered with and the password that you set. If you see a Log out menu item, you are already logged in. If you forget or want to change your password, enter just your registered email address and click Reset Password to have another confirmation email sent to you. Then click the link in that email and set your new password.
