66th Annual Meeting Call for Submissions

We are delighted to announce that the 66th Annual Meeting of the Institute of Andean Studies will be held as an in-person meeting on the campus of the University of California in Berkeley, California on Friday, January 9th and Saturday, January 10th, 2026. Advance registration for the meeting is required no later than Friday, January 2nd, 2026, and will open on this website in early November.

Please note that only in-person presentations will be accepted for the 2026 meeting; virtual meetings now alternate years, and thus, the next virtual meeting will be held in January 2027. Therefore, please do not submit a proposal this year unless you are certain that you will be able to travel to Berkeley to attend the meeting in January 2026.

Meeting Format

During the two-day meeting, there will be no more than nineteen 20-minute papers, a 40-minute talk by this year's Travel Grantee, a 40-minute Saturday evening public lecture, and an unspecified number of posters. Ten minutes are scheduled for discussion after each paper. A computer with video and audio projection will be provided. All submitted abstracts will be considered for regular 20-minute talks. If you wish your presentation also to be considered for the longer public lecture, please indicate how it could be expanded, or provide an alternate abstract for a longer talk of broad interest and visual appeal. Accepted abstracts will be posted publicly on the Institute’s website.

Posters are about 3x4 feet (92x122 cm), and are displayed continuously during both days of the meeting. One 45-minute period each day is scheduled for discussion with poster authors.

Topics are open to Andean anthropology, archaeology, history, art history, sociology, ethnomusicology, and other related subjects.
